| From the Managing Partners |
| As many of you are aware, I have spent the
last six months or so dividing my time between working at home
and on the phone or fax and undergoing intensive cancer treatment.
I am in the process right now of recovering from aggressive chemotherapy
and radiation cycles. |
|

| Although I have been involved with client matters
and firm management during this period, these are not things
that can be done well on a part time basis. I have been ably
assisted in the client matters by the partners and staff who
are thoroughly familiar with the particular client's affairs.
I am certain that you'll agree that this teamwork has made the
going smooth. As far as the firm management is concerned, our
designated successor managing partner, Ken Miles, has
done a fine job of the day-to-day handling of the firm's affairs,
assisted by Eileen Cohen and other Partners in deciding direction
and making decisions. "The Kid" (as I was known when
I first started my career) is now 70 years young. Ken Miles will
continue to carry on the day-to-day activities while I am recovering
and will be able to continue in that role, with my input, upon
my return. It's what we had in mind all along; it's just not
the way we planned to get it started. Ken has spent his entire
professional career at NSBN working with me a great deal of that
time. He is someone we are really proud of. The combination of
the "Family" firm, together with youth's new enthusiasm
and ideas should assure the firm's continued success. Of course,
the most important ingredient will be the continued support and
growth of our loyal client base. |

I am both
honored and excited to have the opportunity to participate in the
management of NSBN. Though I realize that it will be impossible to
fill the shoes of Larry Stern, our founder and Managing Partner for
almost 50 years, I'm confident that together with my partners and
staff, who have provided me such tremendous support, NSBN will continue
to be the excellent firm that it is today.
