It was my original intention to use this
opportunity to describe the newest financial services we have available to
our clients. In light of the events of September 11th
and in the spirit of the holiday season, I have changed my thoughts.
Instead, I’d like to share with you a one-sided conversation with The
Almighty that has been adapted from a passage from the Day of Atonement
Services I attended at Kol Tikvah Temple. It’s really a conversation with
Adonai, Allah, Jesus, Buddha, or who or whatever reigning spirit is yours.
We cannot pray to You to end war;
You made the world in such a way that we must
find our
own path to peace within ourselves and with our
neighbors.
We cannot pray to You to end starvation;
You gave us the resources with which to feed the whole
wide world,
if only we would use them wisely.
We cannot pray to You to root out prejudice;
You gave us the eyes with which to see the good in all
people,
if only we would use them rightly.
We cannot pray to You to end despair;
You gave us the power to clear away slums, to give
fresh
hope,
if only we would use our power justly.
We cannot pray to You to end disease;
You gave us mind and skill to search out cures and
healing,
if we would only use them constructively.
Therefore we pray to You for the strength and the
will,
to do what we can, to do what we must;
For our children’s sake and for our own – that our land
be
safe,
that our lives be blessed
