Sales Tax Rate Increase April 1, 2009

Effective April 1, 2009, the California sales and use tax rate increases by 1%. This increase is scheduled to expire either on July 1, 2011 or July 1, 2012.
The tax rate for most of Los Angeles County will increase from 8.25% to 9.25%. Some counties and cities have higher increases. For instance, the tax rate for the city of Pico Rivera will increase to 10.25%.
If you are considering a large taxable purchase, you may want to make that purchase prior to the April 1st increase.
If you are a merchant who collects sales tax, please adjust your withholding rate on April 1st.
