Secretary of State Debra Bowen Spoke on "Safeguarding Our California Democracy"

Event also highlighted a powerful presentation on heart disease presented by American Heart Association's Dr. Kathy Magliato

Beverly Hills, California, October 9, 2007, Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Kathy Magliato, MD, MBA, FACS of the American Heart Association both delivered insightful presentations on democracy and health to two hundred friends and clients of NSBN LLP, CPAs and Business Consultants (www.nsbn.com), at a luncheon hosted by the CPA firm held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City on October 2, 2007.

"I really am the keeper of the flame of Democracy" said Bowen; part of her responsibilities include overseeing state and federal elections, a role that also requires her to test and certify the voting equipment used in California.

Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. Dr. Kathy Magliato, Director of Women's Cardiac Surgical Services at Saint John's Medical Center in Santa Monica, CA, and board member of the American Heart Association, advised the audience, "Know your numbers like you know your social security number," referring to numbers on blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides.
