Secretary of State Debra Bowen became only the sixth woman in California history elected to a statewide constitutional office when she was elected as Secretary of State in November 2006. Part of her responsibilities include overseeing state and federal elections, a role that also requires her to test and certify the voting equipment used in California.

Dr. Kathy Magliato is the Director of Women's Cardiac Surgical Services at Saint John's Medical Center in Santa Monica, CA. She is one of only 4 female surgeons in the country who perform heart transplants and implants of artificial hearts. Dr. Magliato works directly with Dr. Robert Jarvik to review the ongoing clinical trials in the US. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States.
